H.R.H. Marie, Princess of Romania
This coat of arms was created as a gift for H. R. H. Princess Marie of Romania, the youngest daughter of King Michael I of Romania. It reflects the heraldic traditions of the Romanian Royal Family while incorporating elements unique to the Princess’s rank and lineage.
The design is based on the arms adopted by King Ferdinand I of Romania in 1921, which served as the official royal arms of the kingdom. However, in accordance with tradition, the Princesses of Romania did not bear the full royal arms. Instead, they used only the middle shield, omitting the royal eagle that appeared in the greater shield as a supporter of the middle one. This simplification maintained a distinction between the sovereign’s arms and those of the royal princesses while still honouring the family’s heraldic legacy.
Encircling the shield is the Order of the Crown of Romania, a prestigious chivalric order established by King Charles I in 1881. Princess Marie holds the rank of Dame Grand Cross within this order. Beneath the shield, her royal cipher is prominently displayed, further personalising the coat of arms.
