Ex libris - Tudor-Radu Tiron

This ex libris was created for our friend, artist, and heraldist Tudor-Radu Tiron and stands as one of our earliest works. Drawn in fine ink, it brings together elements that reflect both his personal identity and his dedication to heraldry.

At the center stands St Theodore Tiron, the saint whose name he bears, depicted in armour and holding a spear and a sword—an image that underscores his role as both a warrior and a protector. Below, his personal coat of arms is prominently featured, seamlessly integrated into the composition. The ornamental frame, enriched with delicate flourishes, enhances the overall aesthetic, lending the piece a distinct Renaissance character.

The design echoes the sensibilities of Renaissance engravings, with its balanced and theatrical composition, detailing, and layered depth. After the drawing was completed by hand, it was scanned and reprinted on a smaller scale, ensuring that every fine line and subtle shading was faithfully preserved on paper suited for bookplate use. More than a simple bookplate, this piece serves as a thoughtful homage to its owner’s connection to history, art, and tradition, making it both a personal emblem and a refined collector’s item.
