A proposed design for the coat of arms of the Municipality of Brașov, inspired by an 18th-century representation of the historical emblem displayed in the city centre.
Ultimately, the project was abandoned following the decision of the President of the National Commission of Heraldry, Genealogy, and Sigillography to adhere to the design outlined in the original grant from 1930, when King Charles II of Romania authorised the adoption of Brașov’s municipal arms.
Thus, Brașov’s coat of arms has remained unchanged since the 16th century, when tree roots were added to the existing crown in the shield. The original design, featuring a crown adorned with fleurons in the form of fleurs-de-lys, was granted in the 14th century by a King of Hungary from the House of Anjou.
